Home Learning and return to school information 23.2.2021

       23 February 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

As I’m sure you are aware from the government’s announcement last night, we are delighted that all children will return to school on Monday 8th March.  This is great news and all staff are very excited at the prospect of welcoming pupils back into school. Our Rainbows Breakfast Club and after school provision will also resume from 8th March. Finalised details will be outlined in our next newsletter which will be sent to you early next week.

As was the case in the autumn term, we will resume staggered start and end times and maintain other measures such as social distancing in class bubbles, regular hand hygiene and enhanced cleaning routines.  In addition, all staff will continue to take two rapid coronavirus tests each week at home to identify positive cases more quickly and break chains of transmission.

Timetables for home learning for the next two weeks

Timetables and work packs that had previously been put in place will continue this week and you should have enough work to complete with your child until Friday 26th February. Please try to get back into a routine like the one set out in the timetables produced by teachers for this week. We would encourage that you focus on getting your children to at least complete the online live lessons put on by class teachers. These links can be found on timetables that were e-mailed out or in the e-mails sent by Mr Goodall on the day of each session. Please check your spam and junk boxes if you can’t find the e-mails.

Feedback for these work packs will be given on Tuesday 2nd March via a 1:1 conversation with the class teacher.  A Google Meet invite will be e-mailed to you with a time to access this feedback.

On Friday 26th February, you will be able to return current work packs to staff at Walshes Community Centre between 10 and 11am or at school between 11.30 and 1pm. We have worked really hard in moving more of our learning online so the next work pack will be able to be accessed using Google Classroom from Monday 1st March. If you would prefer a printed pack these can still be provided for Years 1 to 6 but please contact the school to request these as we will only print packs that are requested by 3.00 on Wednesday 24th February. The live online sessions next week will focus on new learning so we need as much engagement from children as possible. These new work packs will last until Friday 5th March.  As we are moving towards something new by using Google Classroom, please be patient with us and refer to SAET IT Support for assistance.

Learning for all pupils in school from 8th March

Our focus, certainly until Easter, will be on teaching what the children need not what they have missed.  The most important thing in the short term will be to ensure all children return happy and motivated, and we will be working really hard to ensure that all pupils are supported on an individual basis both pastorally and academically.  We will start the day on Monday 8th March with a breakfast party in each classroom and incorporate lots of fun activities to build confidence, interaction and socialisation.

Forthcoming events

  • The Hen House Farm will be delivering our incubator and 20 eggs this Thursday with the chicks expected to hatch in time for Easter.
  • Look out also for our 8 Billion Ideas ‘think big, dream big’ project which launches at 1pm on Wednesday 24th February.  All children across Severn Academies Educational Trust (SAET) will be taking part whether they are in school or at learning at home.
  • World Book Day on Thursday 4th March will involve a variety of learning activities and for all pupils in school and at home.

Yours faithfully

Ian James
